Hello everyone,
This blog will be partially devoted to displaying the lyrics, with translated key-words, to upcoming and popular music in the Mandarin Chinese language. The idea is to help intermediate and advanced language learners to improve their vocabulary by listening to great songs and in the process getting the vocabulary along with the catchy music stuck in their memories. As a learner of Mandarin Chinese and a music aficionado myself, I think this website can be a very effective learning tool in and of itself or as an addition to a more traditional study plan. The first song in this series is by perhaps the most well-known song by one of the most famous singers in not only all of China, but all of Asia. The singer is Jacky Cheung (张学友，zhang1xue2you3），and the song is 祝福, which was released in 2003 and is already a classic. A Hong Kong native, the legendary Jacky Cheung is already over 50 years old but is still performing in concerts and has a career as an actor as well. He is considered to be one of the 'four heavenly kings' (a reference to the four heavenly kings of Buddhism) of the Hong Kong music scene, and has been acclaimed with the nickname ’歌神‘，which can be translated as 'song god'.
